Pawnee Hero Stories and Folk-Tales is a book written by George Bird Grinnell that provides a comprehensive collection of traditional stories and legends of the Pawnee people, a Native American tribe that once inhabited the Great Plains region of North America. The book includes over 50 tales of legendary heroes, mythical creatures, and supernatural events that have been passed down through generations of the Pawnee tribe. In addition to the stories themselves, the book also includes detailed notes on the origin, customs, and character of the Pawnee people. Grinnell, who was a renowned anthropologist and historian, spent many years studying the Pawnee culture and way of life, and his insights provide valuable context for understanding the stories in the book. The stories themselves cover a wide range of topics, from the creation of the world and the origins of the Pawnee people, to tales of heroic warriors and magical animals. Many of the stories are deeply symbolic and offer insights into the Pawnee worldview and belief system. Overall, Pawnee Hero Stories and Folk-Tales is a fascinating and informative book that offers a unique glimpse into the rich cultural heritage of the Pawnee people. It is a must-read for anyone interested in Native American history, folklore, or mythology. This scarce antiquarian book is a facsimile reprint of the old original and may contain some imperfections such as library marks and notations.
