The book ""Frederick York Powell V1: Memoir and Letters"" by Oliver Elton is a biographical account of the life and work of Frederick York Powell, a prominent historian and scholar of medieval literature. The book is divided into two parts, with the first part consisting of a detailed memoir of Powell's life, written by Elton. The memoir covers Powell's early years, his education, his academic career, and his personal life, including his marriage and family. The second part of the book consists of a collection of letters written by Powell to various individuals, including family members, friends, and colleagues. These letters provide insight into Powell's thoughts and feelings about his work, his relationships, and his personal beliefs. They also offer a glimpse into the intellectual and cultural milieu of the late 19th and early 20th centuries, as Powell corresponded with many of the leading figures in the fields of history and literature.Overall, ""Frederick York Powell V1: Memoir and Letters"" provides a comprehensive and engaging portrait of one of the most important scholars of his time, and sheds light on the intellectual and cultural context in which he lived and worked. In Two Volumes. This scarce antiquarian book is a facsimile reprint of the old original and may contain some imperfections such as library marks and notations.
