A History of Ancient Geography, written by Henry Fanshawe Tozer and originally published in 1897, is a comprehensive study of the development of geographical knowledge in ancient civilizations. The book covers the period from the earliest records of geography in ancient Egypt and Mesopotamia to the Roman Empire.Tozer explores the various methods and techniques used by ancient cultures to map and understand the world around them. He examines the contributions of important figures such as Herodotus, Eratosthenes, and Ptolemy, and discusses the impact of their work on the development of geography. The book also delves into the cultural and political factors that influenced the study of geography in ancient times. Tozer explores the role of religion, trade, and warfare in shaping geographical knowledge, and examines how different societies used geography to assert their power and influence.Throughout the book, Tozer provides detailed descriptions of ancient maps, as well as illustrations and diagrams to help readers understand the complex concepts and techniques involved in ancient geography. He also includes a bibliography of primary and secondary sources, making this book an invaluable resource for students and scholars of ancient history and geography. This scarce antiquarian book is a facsimile reprint of the old original and may contain some imperfections such as library marks and notations.
