Emblems of Mortality is a book that was originally published in 1795 by John Bewick. The book contains more than fifty illustrations that depict Death in various forms, seizing people from all walks of life. The cuts are intricately detailed and show Death as a skeleton or a hooded figure, with people of all ages and social classes being taken away. The book is a reflection on the inevitability of death and the idea that it comes for everyone, regardless of their status or position in life. The illustrations are accompanied by short verses that further emphasize the message of the book. The book is a fascinating look at the way people viewed death in the late 18th century, and it remains a valuable historical document to this day. This scarce antiquarian book is a facsimile reprint of the old original and may contain some imperfections such as library marks and notations. Because we believe this work is culturally important, we have made it available as part of our commitment for protecting, preserving, and promoting the world's literature in affordable, high quality, modern editions, that are true to their original work.
