The Story Of Majorca And Minorca is a historical book written by Clements R. Markham, detailing the history and culture of the Balearic Islands of Majorca and Minorca. The book is divided into two parts, with the first part focusing on Majorca and the second on Minorca. The book begins with an overview of the geography and climate of the islands, followed by a detailed account of the early history of the islands, including the Phoenician and Roman periods. Markham then goes on to discuss the Arab conquest of the islands in the 10th century, which had a significant impact on the culture and architecture of the islands. The book also covers the Christian reconquest of the islands, the rise of the Kingdom of Majorca in the 13th century, and the subsequent periods of Spanish and British rule. Markham also provides an in-depth analysis of the economic, social, and cultural developments of the islands during these periods, including the rise of agriculture, trade, and tourism.Throughout the book, Markham provides detailed descriptions of the architecture, art, and cuisine of the islands, as well as their unique traditions and customs. He also includes numerous illustrations and photographs to help readers visualize the islands' rich history and culture.Overall, The Story Of Majorca And Minorca is an informative and engaging read for anyone interested in the history and culture of these fascinating Mediterranean islands. This scarce antiquarian book is a facsimile reprint of the old original and may contain some imperfections such as library marks and notations.
