September 1919: Twenty-year-old Tristan Sadler takes a train from London to Norwich to deliver a clutch of letters to Marian Bancroft. Tristan fought alongside Marian's brother Will during the Great War. They trained together. They fought together.

The contradiction of war
A book to make you stay up late because you can't stop reading. "The Absolutist" goes into a part of WW1 history. I hadn't heard about this before: the conscientious objector. Today the right to refuse to fight in a war is still a widely discussed question. Boyne merges this topic in with a queer coming of age story during times of war. Tristan and Will struggle with the purpose of the Great War, the horrors of the same, and the expectations of family and society.
