Meet Dolores Price. She's 13, wise-mouthed but wounded, having bid her childhood goodbye. When she finally orbits into young womanhood at 257 pounds, Dolores is no stronger and life is no kinder. But this time she's determined to rise to the occasion and give herself one more chance before she really goes under. When I first started this book, I was sceptical of the way this story would go. However, I was surprised that soon I really did enjoy it! Of course I was shocked to read about all the hardhitiing events Dolores had to face and had to hold my breath several times when Dolores was confronted with the calamities that would shape Dolores and her future in a certain direction. Nontheless, I was completely amazed by her character and the way Wally Lamb constructed such a fragile and still so confident character. I would really recommend this book to all those readers enjoy a bit of hardship on the way with a happy end waving from the distance.
