Red Queen

10 years later and Red Queen is still one of my favorite YA series. Victoria Aveyard created an interesting, kinda dystopian world with a strong female main character, who doesn't just change her entire belief system just because she met a guy (or, in this case two). Completed with just the right amount of romance and political intrigue. Gripping from start to finish.

"Red Queen" is a thrilling dystopian story with plenty of unexpected twists about the young girl Mare. She was born as a "Red" without supernatural abilities, and is trying to make a living for herself and her family by working as a thief. Destined to serve the Silvers and forced to join the war once her eighteenth birthday passes, she is looking for a way to escape. Until she is caught stealing from a strange man she met in a tavern and her fate changes. A magnificent book I truly enjoyed reading. I can't wait to start the next book of this series! Perfect for people who like "The Hunger Games".

I really am a fan of YA dystopian novels. Books like Mazerunner, Hunger Games and The Darkest Minds naturally caught my attention. And so did "Red Queen". Of course one could argue that these dystopian tropes are always the same but I think that's exactly why I like them so much. And this book is no exception. I really loved the way Victoria Aveyard developed the characters and the world they're in. One can really imagine being there with them, feeling what they feel. More than once I gasped, laughed out loud or cried along with Mare, Cal and their friends and family, not least because of the first person narrative. The only thing that annoyed me is the occasional immature behaviour of the characters, as they are in their Teens, but that's what you get for reading YA. On the whole, i really really liked this book and I'm eager to find out what Aveyard has in store for Mare and the other characters!

Einer meiner ersten Fantasy Bücher damals und immer wieder gern gelesen. Meiner Meinung nach einer der Fantasy Bücher die man als Fan des Genres gelesen haben muss. Mare ist einfach stark geschrieben und auch Tiberias hat mir einfach mega gut gefallen; der Mix aus Fantasy und Romance hat mich einfach gepackt und ich musste immer wieder wissen wie es weitergeht. Lest dieses Buch; auch wenn es einige Jahre hinter sich hat, es lohnt sich!
