Lazlo Strange is obsessed with the fabled city of Weep: it vanished from existence hundreds of years ago, and no one is even sure it ever really existed. Lazlo cannot believe his luck when he is chosen to accompany the delegation back to their home to help solve their problem. He has no idea what awaits him ... I loved every single word of this story. Laini Taylor writes with pure magic in her quill. I love the intricate and fascinating world she created, and felt for its characters. Lazlo is such a relatable protagonist who lost his heart to books and stories long ago. And even though the story is more on the slow side, it still packs some exciting twists and turns and a whole load of whimsy. One of my favorite fantasies I've ever read. / Lazlo Strange is besessen von der sagenumwobenen Stadt Weep: sie ist vor mehreren hundert Jahren wie vom Erdboden verschluckt worden, und viele sind sich nicht einmal sicher, ob sie je wirklich existiert hat. Aber Lazlo liest alles, was er zwischen die Finger bekommt, und träumt davon, wie die Stadt gewesen sein mag. Bis eines Tages eine Gruppe Menschen erscheint, die behauptet, aus ebenjener verlorenen Stadt zu kommen, und Hilfe erbittet bei einem mysteriösen Problem, das sie schon lange zu verfolgen scheint. Lazlo kann sein Glück nicht fassen, als er auserwählt wird, die Gruppe nach Hause zu begleiten, um ihnen bei der Lösung ihres Problems zu helfen. Er hat keine Vorstellung davon, was ihn erwartet ... Ich habe jedes einzelne Wort dieser Geschichte geliebt. Lainin Taylor schreibt mit reiner Magie in der Feder. Ich liebe die komplexe, faszinierende Welt, die sie kreiert hat, und habe mit ihren Figuren mitgefühlt. Ich habe mich besonders in Lazlo gesehen und darin, dass er sein Herz vor langer Zeit an Bücher und Geschichten verloren hat. Und obwohl die Geschichte eher langsam voranschreitet, hat sie doch einige spannende Twists und eine ganze Ladung Wunder auf Lager. Eines der besten Fantasybücher, das ich je gelesen habe.

Noch nie hat mich ein Buch so sehr berührt, begeistert, verzaubert und innerlich so sehr zerrissen wie Strange the Dreamer. Lazlo Strange verbingt seine Kindheit als Waise in einem Kloster mit riesiger Bibliothek, in welcher er jegliche Informationen über diese mysteriöse Stadt sammelt, deren Name verschwunden ist. Nein, die Menschen haben den Namen nicht einfach vergessen, er wurde ihnen genommen und niemand weiß, wie das passiert ist. Als dann eine Delegation dieser Stadt bei dem Kloster auftaucht und um Hilfe bittet ist Lazlo sich sicher: Er ist der Richtige dafür! Und so macht er sich mit der Delegation auf zu der Stadt, die in Ermangelung des richtigen Namens Weep genannt wird, um dort auf das größte Abenteuer seines Lebens zu stoßen und Dinge über sich selbst zu erfahren, die er nie für möglich gehalten hätte. Ich glaube dieses Buch und die Fortsetzung "Muse of Nightmares" werden noch eine sehr lange Zeit die Hitliste meiner Lieblingsbücher anführen.

Rarely have I read a fantasy novel that has created such an astonishing scope of its world, its characters and the stories they have to tell. If you pick up the first instalment of this duology, the first few chapters do not make any sense at first but they nevertheless grip your curiosity and attention in an instant. The farther the story proceeds, the deeper you are lured into the mythic world of Weep and all the secrets that it has to hold. Needless to say that Lazlo Strange wins the hearts of his readers right away through his utter authenticity and charming innocence as well as his steadtfast love for mythical literature and books in general. The perfect opportunity to get lost in a brilliant story alongside a fictitious bookworm.

Her very own writing style contributes to the adventure of reading her tale in the most magical way.
