Doughnut Economics The must-read book that redefines economics for a world in crisis

The author not only gives more than just one reason, why and how come the important historical economic theories are outdated, if they did not become straight obsolete. Instead of it all, she presents the reader a rational, new alternative with a fitting theoretical basis. Herself having attachments with Oxfam, the organization, which reached the news several times because of accusations of neo-colonial behavior of its members. One can suspect the author therefor of holding the common socialist views of the left. That said, the book is at least an important, if not an essential read for anybody, who is willing to think about the status quo of today in matters of environment, social justice and the still existing global poverty with its debilitating side-effects. Besides being a financial-economic almanac for folks with socialist views, the book is also an interesting read for the liberal minded, who like to consider the alternative solutions for tomorrow of the problems mentioned before. My advice though, before one should decide to give everyone on earth a basic income, an issue discussed in the book, one should first take a better look at the mere effects of such in social misconduct and social derailing in countries like the Netherlands, where one forgot to take the ‘human factor’ into account. Because, as we all should know meanwhile, at the end of the day (wo)men are not born as angels.

Profound analysis of the development of economics since Aristotle to present day mainstream theories. The author shows the shortcomings of the neoliberal theory focusing on (impossible) eternal growth and gross domestic product. The underlying equations pretend economics to be a natural science like physics and are thus doomed to fail due to the inability to include all the relevant factors. Illogical results are explained as external distortions. Doughnut economy is a new way of thinking economy not based on limited assumptions but including all the relevant elements of welfare and prosperity for both our planet and humanity. This book should be mandatory for all economists as well as executive leaders of States or enterprises.
