Behind every bare title in a library catalogue lies a human life, a vanished town, a forgotten struggle. Catalog of the Library of the State historical society of Wisconsin (Volume VI) opens that world in meticulously arranged form for anyone drawn to the deep currents of American local history. Every title tells a story. Compiled in the late nineteenth century by Daniel S. Durrie and Isabel Durrie, this authoritative historical library catalog records the growing state historical society collection at a formative moment in 19th century Wisconsin. As a bibliographic reference catalog it guides readers through thousands of works on regional history, government, exploration, Native nations, settlement, war, travel, biography and community life, making it a foundational Wisconsin history bibliography and a powerful reference for historians across the United States. For family historians, its careful notices of county histories, town sketches, memorial volumes and commemorative pamphlets make it a richly suggestive research tool for genealogists seeking reliable American local history sources and genealogy and family history resources. More than a list, Volume VI stands among key Wisconsin historical society publications and remains a touchstone for anyone building or using a serious local history reference collection, whether in an institutional library or a private study devoted to United States historical research. Out of print for decades and now republished by Alpha Editions. Restored for today's and future generations. More than a reprint, a collector's item and a cultural treasure.
