Dream Life and Real Life: A Little African Story is a novel written by Olive Schreiner and published in 1893. The story is set in South Africa and follows the life of a young girl named Lyndall. The novel is divided into two parts, with the first part focusing on Lyndall's childhood and the second part on her adulthood. The novel explores themes of gender roles, race, and the struggle for personal freedom. Lyndall grows up in a patriarchal society where women are expected to be submissive and obedient to men. She rebels against these expectations and seeks her own path in life, which leads her to become a teacher and a writer. The novel also touches on the issue of race and the injustices faced by black people in South Africa during the colonial period. Lyndall befriends a black boy named Waldo, who is mistreated by white people because of his race. Through their friendship, Lyndall learns about the struggles faced by black people and becomes an advocate for their rights.Dream Life and Real Life: A Little African Story is a powerful and thought-provoking novel that challenges societal norms and encourages readers to question their own beliefs and values. It is a timeless classic that continues to resonate with readers today. This scarce antiquarian book is a facsimile reprint of the old original and may contain some imperfections such as library marks and notations.
