The Gospels As Historical Documents, Part 2: The Synoptic Gospels (1909) is a scholarly work by Vincent Henry Stanton that explores the historical authenticity of the Synoptic Gospels - Matthew, Mark, and Luke. The book is a continuation of Stanton's earlier work, The Gospels As Historical Documents, Part 1, which focused on the Gospel of John.In this second part, Stanton examines the similarities and differences between the Synoptic Gospels, as well as their relationship to each other and to other historical sources. He explores the question of whether the Gospels can be considered reliable historical documents, and argues that they should be treated as such.Stanton's analysis is based on a careful study of the text and a thorough understanding of the historical context in which the Gospels were written. He draws on the work of other scholars and historians, as well as his own extensive knowledge of the subject. The book is divided into chapters, each of which focuses on a different aspect of the Synoptic Gospels. Stanton discusses topics such as the sources of the Gospels, their literary style and structure, and their portrayal of Jesus and his teachings. He also examines the historical accuracy of specific events and details in the Gospels, such as the birth and crucifixion of Jesus.Overall, The Gospels As Historical Documents, Part 2: The Synoptic Gospels is a rigorous and insightful examination of the historical authenticity of the Synoptic Gospels. It will be of interest to scholars and students of biblical studies, history, and theology. This scarce antiquarian book is a facsimile reprint of the old original and may contain some imperfections such as library marks and notations.
