Across a century and a half of weddings, this landmark register of the Reformed Dutch Church charts the families who shaped 17th- and 18th-century New York. Every name tells a story. From the earliest days of New Amsterdam to the rise of New York City, marriage entries from 1639 to 1801 preserve the unions, surnames, and witnesses that anchor early American family history. As both historical church records and New York vital records, they illuminate Dutch Reformed marriages, connections with other communities, and early Dutch settlers genealogy. For anyone building a family tree or confirming family tree documentation, it is a trusted New York marriage registers source and a window onto daily life, faith, and kinship in the colonial era. Compiled and edited by Samuel S. Purple from original New Amsterdam church archives and related records, this colonial marriage records volume is an essential genealogists research resource and cornerstone of any serious genealogy reference collection. Researchers, local historians, and collectors rely on it for authoritative documentation of names, dates, and relationships that rarely survive elsewhere. Out of print for decades and now republished by Alpha Editions. Restored for today's and future generations. More than a reprint - a collector's item and a cultural treasure. Prepared in a careful modern edition that honours the original scholarship while remaining accessible, it belongs on the shelf of anyone interested in the foundations of New York, the texture of colonial society, or the enduring stories preserved in primary records.
