Behind every brief notice lies a whole world of faith, family, and quiet service. These are quiet lives. First issued for 1851 and recording the year 1850, The Annual Monitor stands as a meticulous quaker obituary register for members of the Society of Friends across Great Britain and Ireland. Each entry forms part of the wider Victorian memorial records of the Quaker community, preserving final testimonies and biographical details that speak of conviction, simplicity, and steadfast conscience. Compiled by William Alexander, the volume reads as a religious biography collection in miniature: short life sketches, notices of society of friends deaths, and occasional reflections that resemble condensed quaker journals and memoirs. For descendants tracing quaker family history and for researchers of british quaker genealogy, it serves as a rich genealogy research resource, grounding family lines in names, dates, and places. Historians of religion and students of 19th century Great Britain find here a vivid cross-section of the Victorian quaker community, illuminating everyday piety, social ties, and the evolving society of friends history. Out of print for decades and now republished by Alpha Editions, The Annual Monitor for 1851 is restored for today's and future generations. More than a reprint - a collector's item and a cultural treasure, it invites casual readers, family historians, and classic-literature collectors alike to rediscover a distinctive spiritual community at the heart of Victorian Britain.
