Before Pittsburgh became a powerhouse of steel and innovation, it was a raw crossroads of rivers, trails and contested frontiers. The river shaped everything. In Allegheny County Its Early History And Subsequent Development, Andrew Arnold Lambing traces the early settlement of Allegheny and the gradual development of the Pittsburgh region from colonial and frontier Pennsylvania into one of the most dynamic urban landscapes of the United States. Blending narrative, local anecdotes and careful documentation, this classic 19th century county history follows townships, communities and leading citizens as they carve farms, roads, industries and institutions from the hills of western Pennsylvania, setting Pittsburgh and Allegheny County within the wider story of United States local histories. For readers exploring family roots, Allegheny County Its Early History And Subsequent Development serves as a trusted genealogy research reference book, rich in names, places and chronological detail, and an essential volume in any local historians reference collection or Pennsylvania county histories collection. Long valued as a Pennsylvania local history book and cornerstone Allegheny County history volume, it illuminates the western Pennsylvania pioneers history, from early cabins and river crossings to emerging boroughs, schools and civic life. Out of print for decades and now republished by Alpha Editions. Restored for todays and future generations. More than a reprint - a collectors item and a cultural treasure for anyone building a serious library of colonial and frontier Pennsylvania and the development of the Pittsburgh region.
