A Botanist's Guide to Parties and Poisons

Who wouldn’t love to slender through the Amazon jungle to explore new species, plants or animals no one has seen before? A research assistant steps out of her comfort zone by trying to solve a mysterious case in which her mentor seems to be involved. I like the cover very much, it transmits such a gloomy mysterious feeling, so perfect for this book I think. Don’t judge this book by its title, even those words are mystical they reveal nothing about what to expect. The story is all fictitious, but what really happened around that time is the struggle women had to endure, especially in finding work in a field dominated by men. And moreover to fulfil society’s expectations. This is not the main point in this story, but rather in the background, just apparent enough to, as a reader, be aware of it. Those subjects are nicely wrapped into this story. I haven’t read a book by this author before, but I thought that botany and a criminal investigation are a perfect fit and therefore wanted to give it a try. This is a combination I haven’t come across before, but in my opinion, every crime enthusiast should read it. There is always something new to try, even in the fictitious crime genre.
