Romance / Friends to Lovers / Online to IRL

Bewertet: Buch (Taschenbuch)

Five years ago, Maggie divorced her husband and swore off men. But now that her son is at college and lives quite outside, her son asks her to go out with people for a while. But she doesn't really feel comfortable there and joins an online guild of local college kids. She gets along very well with Otter in particular. Aiden came back home to care for his father and after his death he doesn't want to leave his mother alone. But she hates him for his orientation. To get out of the house, take some courses at college and start a gaming guild, with the college kids. And he is happy about the female approach, because the sprightly "grandma" not only seems to be quick-witted, but also very good at gaming. When Aiden breaks his foot, Maggie comes to the rescue and both are shocked that they are the same age and question their online friendship... We follow both. Maggie is socially very awkward, and not just because of her toxic husband. Aiden is a bit more socially skilled, but he is too nice and not interested enough, in the course of the book he realizes why and I don't want to spoil that, because this is a really great development and the sexy, talented and helpful fifty-year-old is just perfect for that. The rapprochement is wonderful, a nice friendly development, precisely because both have no interest in each other. And I like the supporting characters because they reflect our society with some clichés, but very aptly. The rejecting mother, the uncomprehending and rowdy ex, the toxic male ex, the emo son, the newly divorced woman on the hunt for men, the woman-wearing friend, etc. This was perfectly brought together and it was shown that everyone is different and how little understanding there is. The language is mature, but also a bit rough (online) and very funny despite the heavy topics. I couldn't put it down and can only give it 5 out of 5 stars.
