Some Desperate Glory The Hugo Award-winning novel

A little something different this time. This is an absolutely astounding queer space opera. The trigger warning reads like one of my dark romance reads, but it is vastly different and thus it should be taken very seriously. We get a totalitarian system that thoroughly structures every little aspect of life for the cause of revenge for humanity and a destroyed earth against a seemingly overwhelming alien threat. What is it like to grow up in such a system? What happens if you get to experience life through a different lense? Will your perspective on said system change? The protagonist (Val)Kyr has to face these questions and oh so many more. She is extremely unlikable at first (duh, given the circumstances she grows up in) so if that is something you can't stand, maybe skip this one. If you don't, you will be treated with a story that pulls no punches, and man did they hit me in the gut. Repeatedly. But after having cried my eyes out all I want to do is thank the author for this incredible ride.
