When I tell you I have been enchanted by Allison Saft's way of describing things, I am not lying. The language transported me right into the events of this wonderful romantasy novel.. I may be biased, but I was very pleased when I came to discover that this romantasy novel was more romance than fantasy. I enjoyed every bit of slow burn, angst and self-deprecation; this love is raw, real and just dreamy. Niamh, tailor from impoverished Machland uses her gift of magic to sew in various emotions, memories or intentions into her creations and has managed to catch the attention of the nobles in Avaland, a neighboring kingdom. What are the chances that a Machlish commoner receives an invitation to the palace, from the Prince Regent and no less, and the offer to design and tailor his brother Prince Kit's wedding warderobe? Slim to none. And with this, Niamh O'Conchobhair goes on her very own life-changing work trip. Kit is the younger brother of Jack, the Prince Regent. He was sent away for a long time and returns a mystery to all of Avaland. His sole purpose seems to be married off to the Princess of Castilia which is not something he looks forward to. At first, Kit seems to be the definition of edgy and rude, a man nobody is fond of. Except for Sinclair, his best friend, who knows that Kit is tough on the outside but soft on the inside. haters to lovers, forbidden love, political unrest, trauma, terminal illness representation, queerness (BISEXUAL MAIN CHARACTERS!!) We witness great character development, unexpected friendships that form, and amany issues (personal, political) confronted. A great read if you overlook the rather weak world building which is the reason it did not receive a 5-star rating from me.

Reading this book felt like watching a painting slowly coming together: a touching, soft and poetic writing style with carefully curated characters and a tale that left me wanting more. Every page was full to the brim with a beautiful lovestory, including longing looks, stolen touches and a LOT of chemistry - I could not get enough of it. Definitely wasn't my last book by this author!
