Unique Writing Voice
This book was so absurd! A woman arrives in the desert where she wants to flee from her grief about her father in the ICU and her husband‘s worsening illness. This storyline quickly turns into a desert survival story with life-size cacti which provide shelter for the protagonist on the one hand but on the other hand also trigger illusions and daydreams that are deeply disturbing. Melissa Broder has such a unique writing style and way of thinking, I absolutely adore the quirkiness and weirdness of the characters and the plot which feels like a fever dream!
