Lizzie Young’s past is not a happy one. When she was three, she did not speak and yet she has violent outbursts. Dealing with a diagnosis in that young age, she struggles with it. And suddenly on her fourth birthday, she starts talking. However her family, especially her sister Caoimhe does not like Lizzie as she finds it hard to deal with her. To all of that, their mother receives a diagnosis as well. After a lot of her parents fighting, they move to Ballylaggin. In Ballylaggin, her older sister Caoimhe meets Mark, stepbrother of Gerard, and starts to go out with him. As Mark meets her little sister, he takes a special liking to Lizzie which is wrong. Lizzie meets Shannon and Claire in her pre-school, feeling safe and happy for the first time. Hugh Biggs is Claire’s older brother and childhood friends with Gibs. They spent their childhood together, attending school together etc. And Hugh got the flutter-cups for Lizzie since the first time he saw her, at seven years old in a bus to invite her to his birthday party. They grow together and start to love each other while Lizzie still gets visits from the Monster and shortly before she heads to Texas to visit her mom, she finds out who the Monster is.. As they continue to grow, Lizzie has her highs and lows more rapidly and in a more intense way before she makes a mistake, breaking Hugh’s heart. It is a strong side that Hugh shows as he stands up for himself. Lizzie has come a long way to stand where she’s now and I’m incredibly proud of her story even she makes mistakes, the most important thing is that she realises her mistakes.

From the very first moment, they were soulmates, best friends, and simply meant for each other. Even in their younger years, there was no doubt about the growing love between Hugh and Lizzie. But their friendship and love are overshadowed by dark secrets that could tear them apart forever. What I found truly fascinating about this book was how incredibly early their story begins; you follow them from childhood through to their teenager years. This naturally creates a unique tension and emotional connection that you develop with them. Although you already know them from all the previous books, we get deeper insights now, into their minds and we learn to understand them both. And you feel a whole lot—especially towards Lizzie. Hate, sadness, joy, pity, fear, and, once again, anger. The book is an emotional rollercoaster and not for the faint of heart (please read the trigger warnings!). I'm really curious to see how the story between the two continues, whether Lizzie's secrets will ever be revealed, and whether a happy ending is even possible given her fate. I hope the the next book isn't too far off, because I can hardly wait to read it!
