Während Cinder & Co. sich auf Luna schleichen, um die Tyrannie von Levana endlich zu beenden, ist Winter ihrer Stiefmutter im Palast völlig ausgeliefert. Immerhin ist Jacin zurück - Palastwache und vor allem ein Freund. Doch selbst mit ihm an ihrer Seite verliert Winter ihren Verstand immer mehr, da sie sich weigert ihre Luna-Gabe anzuwenden. Kann sie Cinder in ihrer Revolution trotzdem unterstützen? Besonders als Levana plant, sie verschwinden zu lassen..? Ahhhh! Normalerweise rezensiere ich nur den ersten Band von Buchreihen… aber hier muss ich einfach eine Ausnahme machen. Mit seinen über 800 Seiten war ich … nicht so motiviert den letzten Band der ‘Lunar Chronicles’ anzufangen. Als ich mich endlich überwunden habe, sind die Seiten dann nur so durchgeflogen, denn ‘Winter’ lässt einem keine Verschnaufspause. Alles scheint unmöglich, die Hindernisse unüberwindbar, die Niederlagen zu gross, um sich von ihnen zu erholen… und doch geben unsere Lieblinge nie auf. Durch die vielen Protagonist*innen hatten sie für mich alle individuell etwas zu wenig ‘Screentime’. Trotz den 800 Seiten. Aber das ist auch mein einziger Kritikpunkt. Die Dynamik der einzelnen Pärchen & die Freundschaft unter ihnen allen war dennoch wunderbar. (Found Family Trope goes crazy in this one ) Ich könnte noch so viel mehr sagen & ich glaube, das ist meine verwirrendste Rezension bisher … aber ich bin emotional zu ‘invested’ um logisch zu denken. Super Schluss einer wunderbaren Reihe! Ich werde meine Lieblinge vermissen. “She’s our lost princess. And she’s coming home.” “Oh, I fully intend to form an alliance with Luna.” Kai glanced at the cyborg foot again. “I just intend to put a different queen on the throne first.” “When she catches you," the guard snarled, “my queen will eat your heart with salt and pepper.” “Well,” said Cinder, unconcerned, “my heart is half synthetic, so it’ll probably give her indigestion.”

"Winter" is the much-anticipated conclusion to "The Lunar Chronicles" by Marissa Meyer. Winter, the beloved and for her beauty admired princess of Luna, is slowly but surely losing her mind. Having witnessed her stepmother Levana's manipulative, egoistical and unjust ruling for all her life, she has sworn off using her lunar gift years ago - with unpleasant side-effects. The resulting hallucinations and self-harming behaviour keep her personal guard and (not so) secret love-interest on his toes. When Winter learns of Cinder and her attempt to reclaim her throne she doesn't hesitate to join the group. But will they be able to defeat Levana once and for all and find their happily ever afters? After more than a year of waiting for the final installment of "The Lunar Chronicles" I finally got to read it and am very very happy with the way Marissa Meyer concluded the series. As its predecessors, "Winter" is exciting, funny, romantic and on 823 pages loosens the hook it has on the reader not even once. I can honestly say this is the most enjoyable YA series I have read up to date. So if you haven't picked it up already, I highly recommend you do so as soon as possible.

I must say overall the lubar chronicles could´ve focussed more on emotions and the development of the relationships that were just a little too superficial and quickstarters for me. But well it is a story about a revolution and thats what we got. I think the depth I´m missing can be explained by the fact that despite its length this is still a YA fantasy series and it makes up what it lacks with sassy dialogues and the most lovable characters you can imagine. I still haven´t completely processed that their journey is over now but it was worth it.
