So viel besser als der Titel!

Ein ganz starker Fantasy Roman. Hat wirklich Alles, was man braucht. Der Titel hat mich am Anfang abgeschreckt, da er fast lächerlich episch klingt, finde ich. Aber schon nach dem Prolog, hatte das Buch mich überzeugt! Die Charaktere sind total real und menschlich, was jeden Konflikt umso emotionaler macht. Ich liebe den originellen Einsatz von Göttern und wie sie in dieser Welt funktionieren. Das Ergebnis ist ein spannender Fantasy Roman, in dem es um Found Family geht und unseren Umgang mit unserer schmerzhaften Vergangenheit. Vier Hauptfiguren führen uns durch die Handlung und niemand davon nervt! Auch eine Seltenheit, finde ich. Als Bonus ist die Repräsentation sehr divers! Verschiedene Hautfarben und sexuelle Orientierungen sind vertreten (total viele Lesben!) und mehrere Charaktere haben eine Behinderung und nehmen trotzdem an diesem Fanatsy Abenteuer teil. Schön zu sehen.

Hannah Kaner's debut was so much fun to read that it is truly awful to have to wait an indefinite time for a sequel. This story is made up of four characters, all of whom are so very different to each other that all of their perspectives enrich the plot to its fullest. Kissenna as the main protagonist is very sharp, self-confident and bold in her language. Her direct manner represents the perfect modern contrast to an otherwise traditional high fantasy setting. What struck me in particular is the natural way in which the story picks up physical disability as one of its central themes and depicts living with a prosthesis and communcating via sign language as perfectly common. It was also refreshing to dive into a high fantasy novel that does not encompass a thousand pages but is maximally compressed in length and speed so that the story feels like holding your breath while rushing through its twists and turning points.
