Cast in Firelight

„I failed. But that does not mean I will keep failing.“ Dana Swift’s „Cast in Firelight“ is the first book in the Wickery duology, a fantasy series about two young royals whose loyalties are torn and whose kingdoms are in jeopardy. Adraa and Jatin have been rivals ever since they first met at age 8 and 9, respectively. Unfortunately, they are also betrothed. Whilst both of them are good at heart and want the best for their kingdoms, they just can’t seem to get along. When an unknown enemy threatens both their kingdoms, they end up working together in ways neither one of them expected. I enjoyed reading this book a lot. I adored the main characters, especially Adraa, and loved accompanying them on their fight against evil. Both of them are determined, selfless and caring leaders who put the good of their people above everything else. The magical elements of this story are comprehensible and intriguing and I love that the characters, much like the readers, learn to understand and wield their magic better as they go. For the romantics among you, let me just say that Adraa and Jatin’s love story is amusing as well as sweet and one simply can’t help rooting for them. Overall, „Cast in Firelight“ is a fairly entertaining book that will keep you engaged from start to finish. I, for one, can’t wait for the sequel.
