Still Beating

Genau so fühlt sich Dark Romance an, wenn sie richtig gemacht wird intensiv, schmerzhaft und gleichzeitig zutiefst bewegend. Still Beating von Jennifer Hartmann hat mich vom ersten Moment an gepackt und liess mich bis zur letzten Seite nicht mehr los. Ich habe das Buch in einem einzigen Tag verschlungen, weil ich einfach nicht aufhören konnte (oder wollte). Die Geschichte beginnt mit einem Albtraum: Cora und Dean werden entführt und was danach passiert, geht tief unter die Haut. Doch das wirklich Erschütternde beginnt erst nach ihrer Flucht (keine Sorge, das ist kein Spoiler, sondern nur der Anfang), wenn beide versuchen, mit dem Erlebten weiterzuleben. Was folgt, ist keine einfache Liebesgeschichte, sondern ein intensives, emotional aufgeladenes Ringen mit Trauma, Schuld, Nähe und Heilung. Jennifer Hartmann schafft es, diese schweren Themen mit so viel Feingefühl und emotionaler Wucht zu erzählen, dass man sich als Lesermit Cora und Dean auf der gleichen emotionalen Reise befindet. Man leidet, hofft, kämpft und weint mit den Figuren, Verlusten und hat am Ende das Gefühl, selbst etwas durchlebt zu haben. Wer die ersten 100 Seiten nicht spannend findet, ist innerlich wohl wirklich schon tot. Für mich ist Still Beating eine absolute Leseempfehlung für alle, die in der Dark Romance nicht nur Spice, sondern echte Tiefe und Gefühl suchen. Ein Buch, das unter die Haut geht!

It's incredibly difficult for me to find the right words for this book, but in a term that everyone understands: EMOTIONAL DAMAGE. This book is not suitable for underage readers. Before you read this book, check the trigger warnings. Jennifer Hartmann doesn't mince her words and describes the events with a brutal honesty that almost drives readers crazy. I have a very conflicted opinion. On the one hand, I find the idea behind the plot incredibly innovative and exciting, but on the other hand, it's so incredibly difficult and problematic that I'm at a loss for words. I simply don't know, but the writing style captivated me so much that I didn't want to withhold it from readers.
