HONOUR & HERESY EXAIIE PB

I loved the idea of this book and for the most part it was a great read. There's this huge ancient and mysterious library and our protagonists are in a way stuck on the inside, forced to uncover its secrets, while a horrible war rages outside and it's their job to stop it. All that in a world where the simple interest in literature is seen as inherently wrong and scholars are being hunted down and executed. It's an interesting concept and I've felt truly invested as our protagonists slowly made one discovery after another. Without giving any details away, I felt especially thrilled towards the great reveal. That was such an amazing perspective and history to read about. I do have to admit that I got confused, if not frustrated a few times while reading. Some scenes, usually when there was some type of shock or discovery moment, felt a bit flat. The tension didn't always build up like it was supposed to and in some cases it felt like the characters' supposedly big and emotional reactions transpired far too quickly, unfitting for the respective situations. Those moments simply threw me out of the immersion. Regardless, I'm glad I decided to pick up this book, I've waited quite a while for it actually. The setting is amazing and I'd love to read more about the past of the scholars which we got an insight into. There are some short but slightly gory scenes in here, just something to keep in mind.
