Eine großartige Reihe voller spannender Charaktere! Wer actionreiche Straßenkämpfe sucht, der wird hier absolut fündig. Ich liebe, wie sich die Beziehungen der Charaktere untereinander entwickeln und die Wichtigkeit von Gemeinschaft, Akzeptanz und Vertrauen beweisen. Absolut zu empfehlen!

The Farseer Trilogy 1. Assassin's Apprentice

Up to this day this is still one of my favorite book series ever! This book hooked me from the start since it is rather slow paced, which I love in a fantasy story. Hobb is such an amazing author when it comes to the richness of her characters. I felt like I grew up and learned but also suffered alongside Fitz since her writing style is so deeply personal and emotional at times. If you like a story that takes its time and doesn't rush through conflicts and action sequences but rather looks at the different moments in a character’s life, then I can wholeheartedly recommend you to take a dive into this world.

The Name of the Wind

Once I started this book I simply couldn't put it down. The prose and depth in this story are simply amazing. Despite the thorough description of the world and its characters, it never gets too long-winded. Although it has to be said that I, for my part, love high-fantasy stories with lengthy descriptions as well as a strong focus on the characters and their thoughts and feelings. Therefore it could be that I am a bit biased. The magic system is one that I really enjoy. It's really interesting while still being very understandable. Especially the use of the 'Law of Names' is a part of this magic system which I always find fascinating. But what I loved even more were all the different and complex characters our protagonist Kvothe meets along the way. Some of them, especially Auri, grew on me so much. She in particular is such an interesting character and her relationship with Kvothe moved me a lot. There's generally a really nice balance between rather quiet and personal as well as action-packed moments. Lastly, I love Kvothe as the protagonist he is. Yes, he does stupid things and makes unwise decisions all the time, but let's not forget that he is a literal child, later teenager. He's incredibly smart and has some strong and extremely useful talents, but he's clearly not invincible because of his temper and immaturity. It should be frustrating, but instead he's just very lovable in my eyes. I can't stress enough how amazing this story is.

The Spear Cuts Through Water

Such an amazing book, I’m not sure I’ve read anything like it before. The story itself is really exciting. We follow two men, each marked by their own past, as they go on a five-day pilgrimage to escort a dying goddess across the land. Along the way there are numerous gut-wrenching but also tender moments as we glance into the deepest and most gruesome parts of humanity. It really was a surprisingly touching and intimate rollercoaster of emotions. What fascinated me the most though is the unique writing style. It’s hard to explain, you'll have to read it to understand what I mean. But one example would be the framework plot in which the character, from whose perspective it is written, is referred to as ‘you’. It may take a little time to get into the book and understand what’s going on but I couldn’t put it down from the start. It’s a huge recommendation on my part!

Babel

It's hard to describe how much this story affected me. Colonialism, cultural identity, racism - only a few of the many topics that are discussed in depth throughout the book. The magic system fascinated me. Although it's unique, it's also subtle in a way. It's a fantastical element but somehow it felt absurdly realistic in the way it was integrated into daily life. And to learn so much about language, its development and its meaning in connection to the magic was extremely exciting. The characters themselves grew on me so much, which made reading through everything they experienced so much more painful in return. This book left a hole in my chest. It felt so powerful and beautifully sad, I couldn't stop thinking about it for a while after I finished reading it. Such an impactful and heartbreaking story.

Atelier of Witch Hat 01

Diese Reihe ist einfach nur fantastisch. Ein sehr interessantes Magiesystem wird verbunden mit unfassbar liebevollen Charakteren und einer herzzerreißenden Geschichte. Moral und Gesetze werden kräftig in Frage gestellt, man lernt so einige verschiedenste Perspektiven auf die Welt kennen. Besonders die Charaktere beeindrucken mich mit jedem Band aufs Neue. Sie spiegeln auf so vielen Ebenen eine wunderschöne Diversität wieder, die man viel zu selten in Mangareihen findet. Auch ihre Dynamik untereinander geht ganz tief ins Herz, es ist Herzschmerz und Balsam für die Seele zugleich. Dazu kommt noch der wunderschöne und detailreiche Zeichenstil, ich kann diese Reihe einfach nur allen ans Herz legen!

A Taste of Gold and Iron

This was such a heartwarming and tender read! On one side you have Kadou, a shy and anxious prince, and on the other his new cold and strictly professionell bodyguard Evemer. They have a rocky start but soon realise that one can learn to trust another after seeing their true face. Of course there's a lot of politics and intrigue as well, but what I loved most about the book were the heartwarming talks about fairness and mutual respect between the characters. They care so much about each other!! But not just them, the whole nature of the relationship between the bodyguards, or kahyalar as they're called, and the royal family is really interesting. Another beautiful aspect is the queernormative world which Rowland has created. Nonbinary characters even have their own gender-neutral pronouns which sound very pretty by the way. I don't have anything else to say, I simply love this world!

So This Is Ever After

This was such a fun and adorable read! Arek and his friends did it, they fulfilled the prophecy and saved the kingdom – but what happens now? Seems like they will have to figure it out along the way. If you’re looking for a lighthearted story filled with ‘found family’, magic and a bunch of oblivious dorks that are incredibly frustrating, yet lovable at the same time then I can greatly recommend this book!

Beyond the Clouds 1

Ein vielversprechender erster Band, welcher ab der ersten Seite schon mit seinem wunderschönen und detaillierten Zeichenstil überzeugt. Die Charaktere sind zuckersüß und wachsen einem sofort ans Herz. Auch das Design der Welt ist unfassbar hübsch und wenn man Steampunk mag, dann wird einem die Atmosphäre sicherlich gefallen. Der Manga erinnert in seiner Art an Ghibli, was ich absolut liebe. Da die Reihe nur 5 Bände hat, ist man auch recht schnell damit durch, sie eignet sich also auch ganz gut für diejenigen, die zum ersten Mal in die Welt der Manga reinschnuppern möchten.

Nemesis' Töchter

Dieses Buch ist ein Aufruf, aber auch eine Lebensgeschichte. Nicht nur die der Autorin, sondern die aller Frauen. Tara-Louise Wittwer lenkt den Blick auf Vergangenes und Gegenwärtiges, Mythologie und wahre Geschichte. Auf Frauen, denen nicht zugehört wurde, die zu Unrecht verurteilt oder in ein falsches Narrativ gezwängt wurden. Sie nimmt sich kein Blatt vor den Mund, wenn sie tief in der Gesellschaft verankerte patriarchale Strukturen kritisiert. Dieses Buch ist Wut und Frust und Schmerz zugleich, aber auch ein Aufruf zum Zusammenhalt. Es trifft tief und regt zum Nachdenken an.

Don't Let The Forest In

This was one hell of a rollercoaster I wasn't prepared for. The writing, the characters, just the story itself - everything was a masterpiece. This is such a beautifully chilling piece of art (literally!) and it made my jaw drop numerous times. Definitely a story that makes its way under your skin, in the truest sense of the word. Drews writes in a way that is both unsettling and captivating at the same time. Even after finishing it I was left emotional and in awe at what I just read. Huge recommendation!
