Rezension

Intriguing . . . On the surface, this is a quirky story about reality TV and people behaving badly, but Lee gets the prize for turning it into a tale of relatable workaday characters attempting to understand how other people perceive them, and why people act the way they do . . . You won't feel like a traitor if you pick up this insightful reality-show thriller.

Interesting concept that fell flat

ཐིཋྀ am 29.04.2026

Bewertungsnummer: 3124040

Bewertet: Buch (Taschenbuch)

I really would watch a show like this if it existed especially because the contestants are just plain weird, even the main character. So its safe to say that the premise seemed really fun but the story did not live up to the set expectations. I see what they tried to do there at the end, trying to make it all about "oh cancel culture" and "flawed perception of others" etc. but it didn´t really work. Even after trying to shift my perspective and looking at it from a different angle, what was supposed to be a teachable moment just seemed forced and spoiled the ending for me. Despite that it was fun to read about what some of these "villains" did to be considered as such. Break Room etiquette is not for everyone I guess... ~ཐིཋྀ

What would make you an office "villain"?

Bewertet: Buch (Taschenbuch)

A reality show that brings together a bunch of office "villains", aka the people that were voted to be the most annoying break room habitants in their company, with the goal to find an imposter amongst them and earn a lot of money. During the show the contestants get opportunities to either get intell on their competition or learn the truth about why they were chosen for the show. As time goes by, we learn a lot about the "Villains" unique quirks and how a lot of them are just misunderstandings or simply misjudged. As the story progresses, you can't help but wonder about your own innocent office offences, that might annoy your colleagues. How would you choose in this situation? Would you like to know what people are saying about you, or would you rather gain insight on your competition? I really enjoyed the general story and thought-provoking ideas, but also felt like the story could and should have been longer. The roughly 150 pages don't do this great idea enough justice, as it keeps lingering on the surface level. I was especially disappointed when i noticed that around 20-30 pages of this book were the first chapters of 'Dallergut Dream Department Store', which made an already thin book even slimmer.
