Gabor Mate takes us on an epic journey of discovery about how our emotional well-being, and our social connectivity (in short: how we live), is intimately intertwined with health, disease and addictions ... This riveting and beautifully written tale has profound implications for all of our lives, including the practice of medicine and mental health Bessel van der Kolk, author of The Body Keeps the Score

    Buch (Gebundene Ausgabe)

Liking it so far.. halfway through

Liking the book so far.. It presents how prevalent Psychosomatic illnesses are and how so many of the common illnesses such as Cancer and auto-immune diseases are highly linked to repressed or suppressed stress. The author talks about the correlation between Niceness at the expense of oneself and higher rates of disease... He also questions the status quo and reveals why and how certain facets of modern life are pathological and how they harm us. Book came packaged well and was in perfect condition.

Gabor Maté s "The Myth of Normal"

Man nennt ihn nicht umsonst "people whisperer". Was seine Arbeit von anderen unterscheidet ist die zutiefst menschliche Annäherung an die Themen Trauma und Erkrankungen und wie diese in die heutige (toxische) Kultur eingebettet sind. Ich würde auch von ihm "When the body says no" ergänzend empfehlen.

    Buch (Taschenbuch)

    not live-changing, but mind-shifting

Maté’s central claim—that we urgently need to reimagine culture to prioritize well-being and connection over alienating capitalism—is both relevant and important. He compellingly highlights how modern Western culture contributes to rising illness and disorder in wealthy nations, grounding his reflections in research and indigenous wisdom. Written with deep compassion and empathy, the book thoughtfully emphasizes that our flaws don’t make us broken—they make us human. While Maté sometimes ventures beyond his expertise and offers oversimplified analyses, and some conclusions feel uncomfortably close to shifting the blame of being ill onto the affected person, his openness about his own struggles lends the book a refreshing honesty and immediacy.
