The essays in this volume explore key themes that reflect both the theological heritage of Nicaea and its implications for contemporary ecumenical dialogue. These include the council's impact on Christian doctrine, the Church's self-understanding, the development of ecumenical relations, and the role of theological education in transmitting this legacy in an ecumenically accountable manner. The contributors offer critical reflections on Nicaea's enduring influence and explore how its decisions and theological affirmations continue to shape the life of the Church in an increasingly pluralistic world. This volume seeks to offer fresh perspectives on how the Council's theological and ecclesiological insights can foster contemporary Christian unity.
The volume is structured around six central themes: (1) Nicaea in Historical and Political Perspective, (2) The Faith of Nicaea: Theology, Christology, and Trinitarian Doctrine, (3) Contextual Readings of Nicaea, (4) Gender, Justice, and Liberation, (5) Unity, Apostolicity, and Ecumenical Dialogue, and (6) Liturgy, Worship and Ecology. This collective volume highlights common ground among Christian traditions, while also acknowledging the challenges and opportunities that remain in the quest for greater ecumenical collaboration.
