Heartwarming and heartbreaking in all the right ways

Bewertung am 14.03.2022

Bewertungsnummer: 1675165

Bewertet: Buch (Gebundene Ausgabe)

The perfect combination of a easy to grasp world and lovely, unique characters you quickly grow attached to. Explores the subject of death and life after death in a sometimes humorous, sometimes tragic way, while teaching you some small lessons to remember. I can only recommend reading it yourself :)

A humorous and thoughtful novel about what it means to be human in the face of life and death

Bewertung am 15.06.2023

Bewertungsnummer: 1961475

Bewertet: Buch (Gebundene Ausgabe)

Lawyer Wallace Price finds himself unexpectly dead which is inconvenient because he has appointments to make and people to fire. But dead is dead and so he gets collected by a Reaper and ends up at Charon´s Crossing, a tea store in the middle of nowhere and an in-between stop for recently minted ghosts. There he meets Hugo, a ferryman to the afterlife and a couple of ghosts who are waiting for their right time to cross over. When Wallace refuses to cross in a timely manner he is given another week of life to make up for all the things LIFE he missed out on while being at the office. While the story occasionally goes off on a tangent with several side stories that are not strictly necessary, with its intriguing premise, vivid characters, thoughtful reflections of life in the face of death and a heartwarming love story this book about death should be a definite yes on any summer reading list!

would give more stars if i could

Bewertet: Buch (Taschenbuch)

I have read this book because it was recommended to me by a friend and what can I do but pass this favour on. It is incredibly well written and shows an endearing personal growth. It is both sad and happy and it creates a sense of hope. Reading it made me deeply emotional yet it soothed me at the same time. It is the type of book that calls out to your soul.

‘The first time you share tea, you are a stranger. The second time you share tea, you are an honored guest. The third time you share tea, you become family.’

Bewertet: Buch (Taschenbuch)

This was absolutely beautiful—and in a way, also heart-wrenching. TJ Klune’s writing is beautiful and incredibly smooth. I’m amazed at how he, despite the heavy topic this book explores, was able to bring such lightness and even humor into the story. I didn’t know what to expect going into this book, but it definitely wasn’t… this. This story holds so, so much—death, loss, grief, love, acceptance… life itself (and along with that, also a lot of tea). I’m deeply moved by this book and the message it carries. It made me think a lot. I loved this! P.S. Make sure to check the trigger warnings before picking this one up. Take care! <3
