  A Little Life

  A little life forever shaped the way in which I read books. And it definitely set a new standard to my understanding of stories. Yanagiharas way of writing gives such an incredible insight into the human experience, one could almost feel like a member of the friend group surrounding Jude. While the book itself covers a variety of very difficult and traumatising aspects, it also captures the magical power of human connection. I could probably talk about this for hours.....

  Years ago, I read this book for one of my university courses and it still mesmerizes me everytime I reread it. This novel has no happy ending and I am struggling to acknowledge that it even has moments of true happiness. Yet, it is incredibly emotional. Baldwin's language has such a force, so much power and a lyrical rhythm that I wish I could highlight most of the text.

  At first, I thought that 'Almost Life' had the potential to the lesbian equivalent to Normal People, but then it turned out to be so much more. Set in France and England, it tells the story of Laure and Erica who fall in love on a hot summer day : Their love a riddle that none of them is fully able to solve. The novel brings us to the depth of friendship, love and grief. As we follow Laure and Erica through the different stages of their lives, we learn what it means to love and to lose. A bitter sweet love story with an ending that has left me in tears.
