Ghosted A Love Story

While researching books in the genre of Gothic fiction, I was thrown back several times to this novel by Jenn Ashworth and decided to give it a try. However, as I expected some mysterious ghosty vibes I was more than surprised to learn that this is not at all Gothic fiction per se. We follow Laurie in her emotional confession that she has been left by her husband merely out of the blue without a note of goodbye or any explanation whatsoever as to where he went to and for how long he plans to stay away. It takes Laurie several weeks to admit to family, friends and the police that Mark has vanished without a trace which links the story to its title as Mark seems to simply have ghosted his wife. Even though Jenn Ashworth's literary approach is engaging, emphatic and original, I was a bit disappointed by the fact that I expected something completely different. What made up for that fact was the unexpected plot twist near the end of the book when the reader finds out why Laurie is so emotional, why Mark has left and why of all whys some rooms in their shared appartment are absolutely off-limits!
