Behind redcoats marched German voices in battle. War has many forgotten faces. Edward J. Lowell's The Hessians And The Other German Auxiliaries Of Great Britain In The Revolutionary War opens the sidelong door on the conflict: the contracts, commanders, and camp life of the german auxiliaries britain employed as hired troops revolutionary war. Written with narrative drive and documentary care, it is a military history book that reads like a map of motives as well as marches. You will meet the political bargaining that raised these contingents, the reputations that followed hessian soldiers in america, and the practical realities of the british army in america across colonial america 1775-1783. As american revolutionary war history, Lowell's study stands as a classic nonfiction war study and an enduring revolutionary war reference guide, grounding later debates about so-called mercenaries in evidence and context. It also widens the lens to the eighteenth century atlantic war, tracing how European states, shipping, and finance shaped the fighting on North American soil. For readers pursuing genealogy for hessian ancestors, the careful attention to units and service offers signposts back into family stories without turning the past into myth. Republished by Alpha Editions in a careful modern edition, this volume preserves the spirit of the original while making it effortless to enjoy today -- a heritage title prepared for readers and collectors alike. Add it to your shelf as a complete hessian mercenary history: essential for casual readers, serious researchers, and classic literature collectors who value primary-era scholarship.
