Black Cake: A Read with Jenna Pick A Novel

I waited quite a long time to finally read Black Cake but it was 100% worth it! Black Cake follows two timelines One in the past of a young girl who loves to swim and surf. The other timeline is set in the present and follows Benny and Byron dealing with the sudden death of their mother. The plot kept me engaged the whole time and the way that both timelines intertwine with the approach that Wilkerson has to story writing was just grandiose. The characters felt like real people and I emphasized with them all a lot.
