The main merit of this book lies perhaps not in the story it tells, but in the author's reflections, on humanity, on freedom of choice and on the influence of people on the world around them. The novel devotes much attention to the problem of the development of artificial intelligence and the dangers it poses. Yet, ultimately, Ray Nayler vividly demonstrates to the reader that the greatest threat to humanity is neither artificial intelligence nor another sentient species, but human beings themselves. For a human, there is no one more dangerous than another human. So if you like science fiction with a lot of philosophical digressions, but not devoid of a gripping plot, and if you liked the movie "Arrival", then I highly recommend you read the novel "The Mountain in the Sea".
