If you're familiar with the fairy tale "The Goose Girl," many of the plot twists in Intisar Khanani's novel won't come as a surprise. However, despite the fact that the author retained all the main elements of the original fairy tale, she was also not afraid to add new characters and additional plot lines. As a result, the story turned out to be bright and original. What I particularly enjoyed about this book was the detailed and engaging portrayal of the protagonist's daily life—a life that begins in the lap of luxury as a princess, only to see her subsequently forced to become a goose girl. Intisar Khanani also did a great job of showing how the heroine adapted to life in a foreign country. If you enjoy retellings or fantasy with a dark atmosphere, as well as stories that include difficult personal choices, a fight against evil forces, and a romantic storyline, then you will love this book.
