Our Lady of Mysterious Ailments

Soon after the events of this series' first installment, Ropa is offered the job of secretary to the high and mighty Sir Ian Callander alongside a more practical employment in Edinburgh's magical hospital "Our Lady of Mysterious Maladies". As teenage patient Max Wu falls severely sick and cannot be helped by any medicine or spell work, Ropa is asked to investigate possible magical foulplay. Combined with the threat of a new secret society and its so-called "One Above All" - leader, Ropa tries to bring together all of the threads that seem to run uncontrollably out of her hands. T. L. Huchu does a find job in showing us Ropa's character growth and what it means to find one's path up from the bottom of society. Equally rewarding is the more detailed glimpse into Scotland's dark history and what is really at stake in terms of its freedom from England both politically as well as magically. There are many influences which try to silence Scottish traditons in magic and the deeper Ropa gets involved with the different factions of this feud, the more dangerous her investigation gets.
