    The perfect enemies-to-lovers romantasy

Immortal is the newest Sue Lynn Tan book and ever since reading Daughter of the Moon Goddess, I’m excited to read everything from this author. This book is Liyen and Zhangwei’s story and it’s such a good enemies-to-lovers one.   Liyen is the heir of Tianxia and she does everything to protect her kingdom and to become a good ruler. I love strong female characters and Liyen totally is one and I found it super interesting how she got powers from a lotus flower. She is strong, intelligent, and durable. When she is summoned to the Immortal Realm, she forms an alliance with no other than the God of War Zhangwei himself and from their first meeting you can feel the sparks between them.   Zhangwei is a powerful and ruthless god, and a lot of people fear him. He is very misunderstood, and I loved discovering more of him with each page and he has such a loving and devoted side as well. His job is to annihilate Tianxia but he finds so much more in this book.   These two come from two completely different worlds and their relationship shouldn’t be but their chemistry is undeniably. The romance was rather slow but that only intensified the longing these characters had for each other, and they become each other’s everything. One of my favorite parts was how Zhangwei would do anything, even burning the whole world down to ensure Liyen happiness. I adored them together and it’s such a great romantasy. The only thing I have to say is that the beginning is a bit difficult to get into this story and I needed a good 100 pages to arrive in the story but then I absolutely loved it.   If you’re looking for a phenomenal romantasy enemies-to-lovers standalone, you need to check out Immortal. 4,5 stars.   (Thank you to the publisher and NetGalley for providing me with an arc.)

Romantasy in the most beautiful world

I already loved Daughter of the Moon Goddess so much and this story here is set in the same world but stands on its own. Sue Lynn Tan writes so magically and the world she creates (based on chinese mythology) is just stunning. You never want to leave. So if you like asian folkore/mythology and a heart-pounding enemies-to-lovers romance THIS is THE book for you!

    Immortal

Just like “Daughter of the Moon Goddess” and “Heart of the Sun Warrior,” I enjoyed “Immortal” and was happy to return to this beautiful world once again. I did struggle with a bit of a reading slump in between and ended up putting the book down for a week or two. While the first half didn’t completely capture me, the second half definitely drew me back in. Especially towards the end, with all the secrets, revelations, and unexpected turns, the story became much more compelling and memorable for me. After her grandfather sacrifices himself to save Liyen, defying a direct order from Her Immortal Highness in the process, Liyen is determined to free the kingdom of Tianxia from its pact with the immortals. To do so, she forms an unlikely alliance with Zhangwei, the God of War. Both possess something the other needs: Liyen carries within her the dormant lotus bloom that once saved her life, while Zhangwei has the power and influence to negotiate with the divine ruler on behalf of Tianxia. As the two grow closer, however, the stakes continue to rise. With both of their realms in danger and a battle looming on the horizon, Liyen must fight for the future of her kingdom while also confronting the destiny that awaits her. “Immortal” may not have captivated me quite as much as I initially hoped, but I still really enjoyed returning to this world. The second half in particular, with its revelations, emotions, and final chapters, was definitely the highlight for me and made the journey worthwhile.

    Buch (Taschenbuch)

    Oh sweet tortured demigods

It was a captivating blend of mythology, magic, and emotional depth. The protagonist’s journey between her mortal and godly heritage is intriguing, with strong character development and rich worldbuilding. The relationships, especially those with family and love interests, are compelling and wellcrafted. While the pacing can be a bit slow in places, the overall story is full of twists and emotional payoff. Sue Lynn Tan does a fantastic job of exploring themes of fate, identity, and belonging. Immortal is a highly enjoyable read, especially for fans of fantasy and mythology. I adore the fact, that we get to experience so much more than just western mythology.

    Buch (Gebundene Ausgabe)

A magical Asian fairy-tale about gods and humans that will lure you into another world

This standalone fantasy set in a fictional Asian world took me right into a fairy tale. I really enjoyed reading this one and the plot twists (you'll see) had me on the edge of my seat. Also, I absolutely liked the magical vibes and loved how lost I was able to get in this book.
