It doesn't take long for Gwen to hatch her latest scheme: rather than surrender Beth to courtship, they should set up Gwen's father and Beth's newly widowed mother. Let them get married instead.
"It'll be easy" she says.
There's just...one, teeny, tiny problem. Their parents kind of seem to hate each other.
But no worries. Beth and Gwen are more than up to the challenge of a little twenty-year-old heartbreak. How hard can parent-trapping widowed ex-lovers be?
Of course, just as their plan begins to unfold, a handsome, wealthy viscount starts calling on Beth, offering up the perfect, secure marriage.
Beth's not mature enough for this...
Now Gwen must face the prospect of sharing Beth with someone else, forever. And Beth must reckon with the fact that she's caught feelings, hard, and they're definitely not for her potential fiancé.
That's the trouble with matchmaking: sometimes you accidentally fall in love with your best friend in the process.

The perfect mix!
With a book like this you worry. Is it going to be completely romantic and the characters face no trouble from a deeply heteronormative society? Is it going to be sad and full of homophobia? No! For me it was the perfect ratio between adversity and support for these two. It's certainly a very romanticised view of this period in history but the main points still stand in this book. Homosexuality is not widely accepted, Beth and Gwen will either live as spinsters with their parents or marry a man to have their own household. There are very few homophobes in this book but society is still homophobic. and heteronormative. I thought this balance was really well done to achieve a cozy and feel-good reading experience that still held my interest throughout and had me asking myself "How are they ever going to get out of this!?" several times. The book is a complete story but the e-book contained a sneak peek at the next book in the series. I usually never read these, but with this one I could not wait and I will definitely be reading the next book when it comes out :) -

This was soooo much fun! Bought it for the blatant Taylor Swift reference in the title (I love Dress!) but soon realized this was all I needed. I cried both from sadness and laughing and overall just had a great time! Highly recommend this to anyone who also thought Eloise was for the girls! -

Sapphic goodness; I am in love!
Oh my god! This book was simply amazing and I just can not wait for the next book to come out. I'll admit before reading the book I was a bit sceptical if I would like the parent-trap-element of the story but I ended up absolutely loving it. Besides that plotpoint I also highly enjoyed the general (good natured) mayhem the two protagonists were causing among London's high society. the The story is funny, cute and sometimes heartbreaking. All of the characters are well written and I have come to love most of them dearly. I am so glad this is going to be a series because I need more, the sooner the better! -

RomCom of a different kind
Have you ever wanted a sapphic alternative to Bridgerton? If so, this is the book for you. It has the very engaging setting of Victorian era London, two very loveable protagonists and a great sense of humour. The relationship between Gwen and Beth develops in a nice, slow way. We also get to meet some wonderful side characters, like Gwen's cousins and father and Meredith, who I'm sure we'll see more of in the sequel. Overall this was a cute and (at least to me) slightly unusual romcom.
