Meine letzte Rezension The Dragon Republic von R. F. Kuang
This book delivered on everything I was missing in book one! The flow was much better in my opinion, and the story itself was also generally more compelling. The stakes kept rising and the focus on naval warfare was incredibly interesting to me. Though I have to admit that at this point I'm mostly reading the series to find out what happens to Kitay.

    Gideon the Ninth

Phenomenal. I love this book so much. If you like sapphics with swords this one's for you! Gideon and Harrow have my whole heart and I can't wait to see where the story goes from here. Fair warning you might be a bit confused at the beginning but I promise it will make sense in the end. There's humour, there's heartbreak and most importantly there's lots and lots of bones.

    The Spirit Bares Its Teeth

As soon as I saw that Andrew Joseph White was publishing a new book I knew I needed to read it, and I was not disapointed! Though the setting is very different from "Hell Followed With Us" the author keeps the same gory, creepy atmosphere that I was hoping for. I'm usually not a big fan of horror novels but something about Andrew Joseph White's writing just keeps pulling me back in. The story itself is haunting and heartbreaking in just the right way and absolutely beautifully told. Silas is just such a sweetheart I love him so much, and Daphne too!

    Don't Let The Forest In

This absolutely stunning gothic YA horror novel hooked me from the very first page. The atmosphere and setting were written in a way that was so visceral and gut wrenching and I couldn't get enough. The story is about Andrew and Thomas and monsters and so much more and I was scared out of my mind most of the time and yet the writing felt like a beautiful poem through it all. By the end of the book my highlighter was almost giving up because there were just so many stunning sentences one after the other that I just HAD to mark up. A big element of this book and a large contributor to the horror is of course the titular forest and this was so interesting to read because I don't know about you but I love to see a nice big forest monster. Towards the middle of the book I was really starting to question what exaxctly was really going on in the school and why and it was so very fun to come up with different theories! Despcribing this book is honestly a bit difficult because, really, you just need to experience it for yourself. I cannot wait to see what CG Drews has in store for us next!

The Raven Boys (the Raven Cycle, Book 1)

This series has everything from dead(?) welsh kings to talking trees with lots of friendship, romance and adventure thrown in the mix. An absolute blast to read even when it rips your heart out.

The Sunshine Court (All for the Game, #4)

As a long time fan of this series I was obviously ecstatic we were getting another book. Now I must admit: in the original trilogy I didn't particularly care about Jean. But now? He is my baby and I will protect him at all costs. I just want to sit him down, make him a nice cup of tea and wrap him in the softest blanket I can find. Jeremy has some questions to answer in the next book but I love him too. See, the thing is, I can not be normal about these books but that's okay because these books aren't exactly normal either. They have had me in a chokehold for over three years now and I don't see that changing anytime soon, nor do I want it to because I love this fandom and how unhinged we all are. Obviously this book was deeply unsettling, and at this point I'm not even sure if Nora Sakavic knows how to write books any differently, but there were also so many (little) happy moments that made it absolutely worth it! I need the next book RIGHT NOW or I will implode. Little disclaimer here: if you are at all interested to read this series (book 1 is called The Foxhole Court) you absolutely MUST read an extensive list of trigger warnings first!

    Vicious

I read this book back in 2022 and I still think about it at least twice a week. If I could adopt victor Vale I would do so in a heartbeat. V.E. Schwab is one of my favourite authors and this book is a big reason for that. I've held off on writing a review for this book for so long because I love it so much my thoughts on it are barely coherent but today I finally decided: better a slightly unhinged review than no review at all, so here it goes. The characters: Absolutely georgeously written I looove them all (except for Eli I hate him <3). Mitch is just "chef's kiss" and as I already said Victor is just iconic. The found family: stunning, delightful, a ray of sunshine. I love it when the dark, broody, slightly murderous character is actually a big softie for the people he cares about. The plot: I read the first half of this book in a day because I just couldn't get enough of it (and because a big part of it was written in Victor's POV lol), at some point there is this very specific plot twist that is kind of not that significant but still made me laugh so much because it really only changed a small thing but at the same time it changed so much and it was just so hilarious. Generally speaking it's about two best friends turned rivals who acquire super powers but have very different ideas on how to use them. There's love, betrayal, some minor necromancy and a lot of homo eroticism. So basically everything you could ask for :)

Most Ardently: A Pride & Prejudice Remix

It has taken me quite a while to properly collect and order my thoughts about this book, because I adore it so much. It perfectly captures the essence of the original but still manages to be it's own story. I am a big fan of all things Pride and Prejudice, it's one of the very few classics I have actually read and I don't even know how many times I've watched the 2005 movie. This is a trans and queer retelling so obviously I had to have it. Trust me when I say that this book feels exactly like the original in terms of vibes and I am so happy that the author kept all the quotes in it that are well-known and well-loved. Oliver and Mr. Darcy are adorably messy, as you would expect, and overall when it comes to retellings it doesn't get much better than this. I had to wait three months after it was published for it to get delivered but it was absolutely worth the wait!!

    Evocation

S.T. Gibson has quickly become one of my favourite authors this year and this book really just cemented that. The writing style is just absolutely gorgeous and the more I learned about the characters the more I fell in love with each of them! So if a book about curses, secret societies and messy relationships sounds like something you might be into, you should definitely give this book a try!

Magic, romance and a deadly contest: this book is one of the most imaginative slow burns I have ever read. Both the narrative and the setting are incredible and the atmosphere is indescribable.

Erin Morgenstern is one of my favourite authors and if you liked her other book "The Night Circus" you will love this one as well. There is a magic underground library, secret masquerade balls and lots of cats!
