The No-Girlfriend Rule

I have to admit, the first time I started this book I dnf-ed it. It was simply to slow for me at that time. Now I tried it again and gave it a real chance and I must say, I love it! It is a slow burn cozy coming of age story with a bunch of loveable characters (for the in-game characters as well as for the real ones). The story unfolds around our main girl Hollis Beckwith (Beckwhat?!) whose goal was to become a member of her boyfriends S&S (Secrets & Sorcery) group until they invented the "No-Girlfriend-Rule". So she did the next best thing: she went to the local game shop and tried a joining a party there -it didn't go too well. While waiting for her boyfriend to pick her up, she finds a note at the pinboard of a new S&S all girls group. She takes the chance which feels more like the leap of faith and finds herself among five other girls. One more quirky and interesting than the next, especially the girl with the colorful dreads. Through the game (and the blurring lines between it and the reality) Hollis learns to become more confident and content with herself. Soon she must decide where and to whom her heart belongs to. It's the perfect book for fans of D&D who also like a queer and cozy YA story :)
