I am still left quite the bit speechless after reading this book. On one hand the obsessive love that ends in body-horror disturbed me. On the other hand the melancholic setting, the hardships of the protagonists and how young they were when everything quite literally just fell apart in their life, touched my heart. Their thoughts. Their actions. The consequences. They all deserve being read and pondered about.

This book is about an obsession so intense that our protagonist literally wants to bury her lover inside herself after his death. It’s just as disgusting as it sounds, but I was surprised to find a tragic and touching story about loss, poverty, and finding purpose in another person. At first, I felt the body horror sprinkled throughout the story was unnecessary, but now I understand that it reflects the relationship the author wanted us to witness: raw, obsessive, and anything but pretty. Definitely a book I’ll recommend to my weird girl fiction customers.
