so sweet and heartbreaking at once

That book left me speechless. I expected a funny and entertaining story, with some tension but an overall fluffiness. And it was - but so much more. First of all, the humor is hilarious. But as much as you have to laugh ... there is so much unexpected depth to the characters it makes you want to cry too. The friendship between Sebastian and Orok is the golden standard and so heartwarming. It's really nice to see a protagonist's friend not just as a side character but as an essential part of the story. And Sebastian and Elethior? Sparks are flying. I liked that the development from enemies to lovers did not take the majority of the book but felt well timed. While their pain feels like a punch to the gut, it is so sweet to see how they save each other from drowning. The emotions are raw and so human in this book. I'm happy book 2 is already announced and looking forward to Orok's story.

Sara Raasch has done it again

I have to admit that I've never played DND before, which means that the movie and several internet memes are the only reference points I have for the game. I assume that someone who has a certain knowledge of it would probably experience the book a little differently considering it’s a romance inspired by the world of DND. However, this won’t stop me from saying that the Entanglement of Rival Wizards is in no way, shape, or form inferior to the royal holiday series and that I enjoyed it immensely. The world was amazing, the characters were lovable and realistic, and the romance was superb. There is no one who intertwines romance and magic quite like Sara Raasch, and she continues to prove to me why she is one of my favorite authors in that genre. Her characters always have so much chemistry. Not necessarily a sexual one, but one that makes you understand why the characters fell in love (or are friends for that matter) in the first place. Which is a skill many romance authors lack. The only criticism I have is that the world was more of a backdrop in the story. I would have wished for a little more worldbuilding, though not less romance.
