Voyage of the Damned

A delightful, tongue-in-cheek murder mystery à la Agatha Christie with intricate world building and lots of queer representation!

The main character Dee is a loveable anti-hero for whom this voyage is not only a journey he desperately tried to skip, but also a journey of self-discovery and growth. All characters deal with some aspect of the expectations and pressures of being an heir to their respective countries, which makes you sympathize even with the kind of malicious characters. The stories deals with themes of found-family, the tensions between lower- and upperclass and features everything from different races, disabilities and body shapes, all situated in a queer normative world. It had me hooked from the beginning and I was frantically trying to figure out who the murderer was the whole time, but just couldn't guess as all these twist and turns kept distracted me (even though looking back there were some subtle clues sprinkled in between).

• 1st person POV • mystery fantasy • locked room - or ship ;) • friends to lovers • lots and lots of reps: multiple races, disability, overweight characters, queerness (trans, non-binary, bi, gay, ...) • overall queer normative world (that is formed like a slice of a cake??? :D) • debut novel • funny, smug, raging bisexual, underdog protagnist || yep, this one was a ride, a hot mess, a really really really good read. The narrative tone definitively isn't for everyone, but it was exactly what I needed.
