Howl's Moving Castle

Das Buch ist wundervoll. Ich konnte es kaum auf die Seite legen. Die Handlung reißt einen von Anfang bis zum Ende mit, wobei das Ende sehr spannend ist. Finde es nur schade, dass es das Buch nicht mehr auf Deutsch gibt, aber für jeden der etwas Engilsch versteht ist es auf jeden Fall ein Muss!! Es ist sehr zu empfehlen!!

Ich war schon immer ein großer Fan des Ghibli Films und habe mir natürlich gleich das Buch, die Vorlage gekauft. Genau wie alle Ghibli Filme konzentriert sich auch HMC mehr auf die romantische Stimmung und gutherzigkeit in den Menschen. Offensichtlich sind einige Dinge und Details im Buch anders, aber auf ihre eigene Weise charmant. Die Charaktere im Buch haben mehr Persönlichkeit, Hintergrund und mehr Spaß und übermitteln mehr verschiedene Gefühle. Für alle, die dachten, dass Howl im Buch nicht dramatischer sein könnte, als im Film hat sich definitiv geirrt und kann sich auf einige lustige Szenen freuen. Im Buch wartet eine verzauberte, dickköpfige Älteste Schwester zusammen mit einem süßem Magier-Lehrling und natürlich unserem daramatischstem, lustigsten und gleichzeitig herzlosestem Magier in einen verzauberten Schloss, geführt von einem lustigem, kleinem Feuerdämon auf euch und jedes Kapitel bringt neue Überraschungen mit sich.

Dieses Buch gehört seit Jahren zu meinen absoluten Favoriten und ich habe es gefühlte 1000 mal gelesen. Die Geschichte ist magisch, einzigartig, witzig und auf eine ganz leise und unaufgeregte Art romantisch. Ich liebe Sophie und Howl... Wie oft habe ich über die pfiffigen Wortwechsel der beiden gelacht und zusammen sind sie einfach unschlagbar! Auch alle anderen Figuren sind sehr liebenswert (vor allem Calcifer). Nichts ist einfach nur schwarz und weiß, gut und böse. Das Ende ist sehr originell und (zumindest für mich) absolut unvorhersehbar. Ein tolles Buch, das ich einfach jedem empfehlen würde. (Nachtrag: Der Film "Das wandelnde Schloss" konnte mich nicht so ganz überzeugen (obwohl ich großer Miyazaki-Fan bin), da ich das Buch bereits vorher gelesen hatte. Es gab einfach zu viele Änderungen und die Geschichte wurde nur teilweise übernommen. Dennoch ein sehr unterhaltsamer Film, der aber für sich alleine steht und sich gar nicht mit dem Buch vergleichen lässt.)

I wanted to read this piece because of the Ghibli movie and I don't regret picking up this book after a long time because despite the obvious differences on the interpretation of Miyazaki, this book is still very lovely and also offers more information on one or the other character. I felt like the story is a little bit slow paced but that isn't bad at all. The focus was simply more on the fantastic adventures of Sophie than really romance and that was very refreshing. Loved it.

In a world where the first-born is destined to fail miserably, Sophie finds herself to be the most unfortunate of them all. Having unknowingly brought the Witch of the Waste's wrath upon herself, she is suddenly turned into an old woman. Her only chance at breaking the curse lies in allying herself with Howl and the other inhabitants of his moving castle. The only problem is that he is rumored to eat girl's hearts by the dozen - surely she will be safe, being an elderly woman and all, right? To be honest, I don't quite get why this book is so popular. The blurb sounds interesting enough, but the reading experience is kind of lacking, in my opinion at least. The story drags along quite a bit with hardly anything happening at all. Things that are supernatural or unusual are always just apathetically accepted, but never explained. Only at the very end, the author reveals how everything is connected and even then it's pretty vague and hard to comprehend in its entirety. Sadly, even the characters couldn't save this book for me. They are bland, not particularly likeable and don't evolve in the slightest. Obviously, "Howl's Moving Castle" won't find its way onto may Favorites-bookshelf, but I think that a lot of younger readers will enjoy it. It's a good pick if you need something with a managable amount of characters and a not overly confusing storyline.
