Rezension

I'm in bits. In BITS. It's been a long time since I've read something that spoke to my soul like this - such a achingly beautiful description of what it is to love and grieve - and in time to learn to laugh at that grief and move on too. When I wasn't reaching for the Kleenex to wipe away a little tear, I was guffawing with laughter - Anna has the gift of being able to make you laugh and sob, and all on a single page. The Last Days of Rabbit Hayes was one of the most amazing books I have ever had the privilege of reading and now this is a worthy successor. Wow. Just wow. I know this will be one of the books of the year for me Claudia Carroll

    Buch (Taschenbuch)

    A truly Irish read!

Beloved mother, sister, daughter, aunt and friend, 40-years old Rabbit Hayes leaves a hurtful gap behind after a fatal cancer illness deprives her of half a lifetime with friends and family. In the wake of her death, each and every single member of Rabbit's family has to find his own way of coping with her loss and the legacy she has left behind. "Below The Big Blue Sky" picks up directly where Anna McParlin's first novel "The Last Days of Rabbit Hayes" left off. As this is a very sensitive subject matter dealing with death, loss and illness, one might expect to feel very sad and distraught while reading. However, Anna McPartlin is able to put in words what is normally utterly unspeakable. Her fantastic writing balances perfectly the mixed emotions of sorrow, hope and happiness. As I dived deeper into the story, I was absolutely overwhelmed by each family member's fight back to a normal daily-life after the loss of Rabbit. There are so many lessons in this book that by the end one truth is perfectly clear: the only thing that gets us through the toughest and most hurtful times in life is family. In sincere and unique Irish fashion, the Hayes' charm, their strong connection to each other, their frankness and unexpected humour will make you laugh despite the heartbreak and make you wish to be part of this extraordinary family - or simply to be in Ireland!
