    Buch (Gebundene Ausgabe)

The magical girl and the boy with a tree for a heart

This book was described as Howls Moving Castle but darker and with polish mythology. I think that sums it up pretty well and I ate that whole thing up like it was the sweetest treat. It has kinda eery but still cozy vibes yet at the same time the stakes are very high. Poranek brings us into a magical forest with dark and dangerous monsters and a moody yet intriguing wielder of magic called the Leszy. Both him and Liska, our protagonist, are amazing characters and undergo a sweet development that not only leads them closer to each other but also to some other creatures they stumble upon in the house under the rowan tree which ends up in a beautiful found family trope. I loved Poraneks writing and am ready to read anything else she might publish in the future because this was amazing!

    Buch (Taschenbuch)

    Enchanting Polish Folklore

I absolutely adored the characters, the storyline and the use of polish folklore. The story carries a sense of adventure and enchantment that I haven’t seen in many fantasy books. The love story is not the main focus and it doesn’t feel forced, which felt quite refreshing. Definitely recommend!!

Gothic Romantasy with found family trope

This book has the best vibes - dark gothic but sweet. The magic system wasn’t as flashed out as I would liked it to be. But the found family in an old manor which is in a wood with many demons was just the best <3

    Buch (Taschenbuch)

Whisked away by this amazing book

Atmospheric gothic romance meets polish folklore with lovable characters and, best of all, some fable vibes. While slower paced, the dark fairytale mood makes this a perfect read for a cozy evening, especially with halloween right around the corner! The romance was suprisingly solid and the dynamic between Liska and the Leszy is fantastic. Not to forget the wonderful implementation of found famaily, can only recommend with a chefs kiss!!.

    Buch (Taschenbuch)

Captivating gothic fantasy story inspired by Slavic mythology

4,25 This book was soooo good. I loved the magic system, the magic house, the forest… The pacing was really great, and I really fell in love with the characters and their development. I enjoyed the excursion into Slavic mythology and the questioning of religious beliefs, even though a guide to the mystical creatures would have been really helpful. This was such a captivating read!

    Buch (Gebundene Ausgabe)

Howl's Moving Castle meets Polish folklore

Howl's Moving Castle meets Polish folklore A sentient Manor in an enchanted forest, with a mysterious and intriguing master, a girl with magical abilities on the journey to find her place in this world, and loads of fascinating (sometimes terrifying) mythical creatures roaming through the forest and it’s surrounding villages. You definitely can’t tell this is a debut novel! The writing is absolutely beautiful, the story touching and personal, and the found family trope is executed to perfection. From page one you get sucked into this fairy tale world and you can feel all the love that was put into this. This fairy tale ensnared me from the beginning to the very end!!!

    Buch (Taschenbuch)

    Perfect for the darker months

A wonderfully dark, gothic fantasy for everyone who loved dark fairytales as a child. With elements from polish folklore, Poranek spins a compelling dark tale about a girl raised to hate her magic, a dark entity ruling over the forest, love, betrayal and fate – an absolute must-read for fantasy and mythology fans!

    Buch (Gebundene Ausgabe)

A mysterious (darker) fairytale that leaves you quite whimsical

This standalone romantasy presents a mysterious and captivating story full of (darker) magic. Liska, a young girl with magic at her hands flees her village in order to reach her most important goal: getting rid of that magic. But when she stumbles across a mysterious manor with an even more mysterious owner, she learns more about magic - and herself. Suddenly, everything that she has ever known gets turned upside down and a magical world opens itself up to her that ultimately provides her with a chance to save them all. I really enjoyed the fairytale vibes that accompanied me while reading, and the ficitional world that opened itself up to me left me feeling quite whimsical.

    Buch (Gebundene Ausgabe)

I loved every second of this book...

A beautiful fantasy novel with a hint of romance and ideas from slavic folklore. I loved the whole concept and storytelling of this book! The characters are deep and lovable, with dark traits and gracious hearts. The language is fluent yet poetic at times and I felt right at home in that dark, mysterious wood full of monsters. A stand alone novel and Top 10 candidate for 2024!
