⭐️ 3,5 Auf dem Eis ist der Unterschied für Rhys Koteskiy, einst ein sehr guter Hockeyspieler, zwischen Leidenschaft und Angst nur ein dünner Schleier: nach einem schwierigen Unfall hat er mit heftigen Panikattacken und Albträumen zu kämpfen. Sadie Brown, eine disziplinierte Eiskunstläuferin, findet ihn daraufhin eines Tages panisch in der Eishalle. Seitdem treffen die beiden immer wieder aufeinander… Rhys erscheint schnell als super lieber und sympathischer Typ, der allerdings zu Beginn wie ein Highschool-Schüler auf mich wirkte und nicht wie ein Collegestudent. Dies änderte sich glücklicherweise ca. nach dem ersten Drittel der Geschichte. Sadie hingegen ist wirklich sehr grumpy und ich brauchte lange, um mit ihrem Charakter warm zu werden. Die romantische Entwicklung zwischen den Beiden ist für mich etwas überstürzt; Rhys ist gleich total verknallt und würde sofort ALLES für Sadie tun. Das war mir etwas too much und erst ab der Hälfte des Buches habe ich überhaupt die Tension zwischen ihnen spüren können. Auch fiel es mir zu Beginn schwer, mich in den Schreibstil von Peyton Corinne einzufinden. Danach liest sich die Geschichte aber relativ flüssig. Besonders gefallen hat mir, dass im Buch vor allem dem Thema Mental Health bei Männern eine große Rolle zugeschrieben wird, was in der heutigen Gesellschaft meiner Meinung nach noch zu häufig tabuisiert wird. Insgesamt kann man das Buch lesen, wenn man ein Fan von seichter Hockey-Romance ist und „reversed Grumpy x Sunshine“ in extremer Form liebt.

A sweet and spicy sports romance

Unsteady was supposed to be my introduction to the sports romance genre. Is this book suitable for that? Definitely. I really liked the sports aspect of ice hockey x figure skating. Although, I would've liked more explanations about the game play. Nevertheless, we got a lot of insight into training, (away) games, and all the different challenges associated with it. Both protagonists struggle with problems and challenges in their daily lifes. Very interesting to read about - I definitely empathized with them. Although, I would've liked more depth here from time to time. Highly recommended for anyone who wants to start reading in English. Simple English, and if there is a word you don't understand, you can easily figure it out from the context. A nice, quick read for in between.

Sweet Hockey Romance

Once again the reason I picked up a romance book was the playlist. But if it includes Uncomfortably Numb by American Football and Hayley Williams I assume I am the target audience. And I enjoyed it. I really liked both Sadie and Rhys, I liked that they both had their issues and that they could help each other but this relationship didn’t fix them. And I really liked the found family dynamic. On the flip side I did cringe at some moments. And the one thing that continuously bothered me was how many times the book talked about Sadie’s size. I get that her being short might be important in figure skating and that the height difference between her and her hockey player love interest is visually interesting, but I did not need ten reminders of oh how tiny she is during every one of their interactions. Overall this was cute though and a nice easy read.
